Aim The aim of our Matwork classes is for you to use the Pilates technique and exercises for both body conditioning and relaxation. As each person in the class will have a different fitness level and background you will always be given the opportunity to work at your own level within each class. This is achieved by breaking down the moves into different ‘layers’ so that you can work at the level that best suits you. Numbers in each class are strictly limited to allow for individual attention and correction. This leads to a better understanding and performance of the exercises which in turn leads to faster progress and greater benefits for you. As Pilates is a progressive technique, classes run as courses, generally between 7-10 classes per course (terms will vary). Courses must be booked and paid for in advance. |

Levels Introduction to Pilates - this relaxed and informal one hour workshop will introduce you to the concept of Pilates and allow you to experience the Pilates technique. As well as looking at the benefits of Pilates, the workshop will cover the fundamentals of the technique such as postural alignment, core muscle engagement and breathing techniques. You will then have the chance to experience the technique for yourself, practicing a number of moves from the Pilates repertoire. Once you have completed this workshop you will be ready to attend any of our Mixed Ability classes. Mixed Ability – these classes cater for a wide range of fitness levels and abilities and are suitable for most people, whether you are a relative newcomer to the technique or have been practising Pilates for a while. The classes incorporate the basic principles of Pilates and apply them to a number of fundamental Pilates exercises. Different levels within each exercise will be offered ensuring that you are able to work at your own pace whilst choosing the level of challenge most suitable for you. Please note that prior to attending a mixed ability course you must have either attended an Introduction to Pilates course, or else have recent Pilates experience. Improver+ – these courses are suitable for people who have had some experience of Pilates (typically more than 6 months) and are able to apply the principles of alignment, core muscle contraction and thoracic breathing to fundamental level Pilates exercises. The classes will introduce you to a variety of exercises and increase the level of challenge within each exercise. Please note that if you are attending Pilates classes for rehabilitative reasons then these classes may not be suitable for you. Within each class there are likely to be mixed levels of ability. To accommodate this, different levels within each exercise will be offered, ensuring that you are able to work at a level that is suitable, yet challenging, for you. |

About Scott Pilates My name is Cathryn Scott and I am the founder of Scott Pilates. I completed my initial Pilates Matwork Teacher Training and Certification with Michael King at the Pilates Institute in London. I have since completed further training in both 1-2-1 personal training and clinical Pilates and hold a CYQ Level 3 Advanced Pilates qualification. Within each class I teach both original Pilates moves and modifications of the original Pilates repertoire. These modifications apply current scientific research to the original Pilates repertoire to provide a Pilates programme that is suitable for people of all levels of fitness. All classes are taught by myself. |
